Humor Has No Boundaries

Humor Has No Boundaries

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today

Is there something you don’t think should be joked about?

Look, I get it—some people get squeamish about certain jokes. Dark humor, rude humor, messed-up humor… not everybody can handle it. But for me? Nothing’s off limits.

I’ve always been the type to laugh at the stuff that makes other people gasp. You know, the kind of joke that gets followed with, “Too soon?” That’s my sweet spot. It’s not because I’m heartless or trying to be edgy for the sake of it. It’s just that humor, for me, is how I deal with life. And sometimes life is dark, twisted, or just downright absurd.

Do I expect everyone to laugh at the same things I do? Hell no. People have different senses of humor, and that’s fine. But the idea that certain topics are just completely untouchable? That’s where I check out. I think the intent behind the joke matters way more than the subject. Are you punching down, or are you using humor to cope, to process, to highlight how messed up something is?

I’ve heard some of the most “inappropriate” jokes in hospital waiting rooms, funerals, and even during some of the toughest moments in life. And you know what? They helped. They didn’t fix the situation, but they cracked open a little space to breathe, to feel human again.

So no, I don’t think there’s anything you can’t joke about. Doesn’t mean every joke is good or that everyone will laugh—but in my book, nothing is sacred when it comes to humor.

Just don’t tell me I can’t laugh. Because I probably already am.
