It’s Not a Palace, But It’s Ours

It’s Not a Palace, But It’s Ours
Are you happy with your home?

As WordPress continues to recycle old prompts, I pulled another prompt from The Coffee Monsterz Co to respond to today.

People ask me sometimes, “Am I  happy with my home?” And the answer is a weird mix of yes and no, kind of like my feelings about group texts or decaf coffee.

Yes, I’m happy because my home is safe. It’s got a roof that doesn’t leak (usually), four walls that haven’t collapsed (yet), and just enough space for me, my wife, and the three fur missiles we call dogs. It’s where we crash after long days of work, where we binge-watch shows, drink too much coffee, and try to forget that people exist outside these walls.

But also… no.

There’s always something that could be better. That one door that sticks. The basement that’s less “finished” and more “serial killer chic.” The constant list of “projects” that somehow keeps growing while my motivation disappears like snacks at a Super Bowl party.

Don’t even get me started on upgrades. Oh sure, I dream of fancy kitchen appliances, updated bathrooms, maybe a deck that doesn’t look like it was built by blind raccoons. But upgrades cost money, time, and energy—three things I’m usually low on by Wednesday.

So yeah, it’s home. It’s not perfect. But it’s ours. It’s warm in the winter, cool enough in the summer, and full of love, laughter, and an occasional dog fart that could end lives.

Would I change a few things? Absolutely.

Would I trade it for anything else? Hell no.
