Midwest Geobash 2025

I just got back from Midwest Geobash and I’m still drying off and recovering from the heat stroke. If you weren’t there, you missed out. If you were there, well… I hope your socks have dried by now.
We rolled in on Thursday with three dogs, a cooler full of beer, and the kind of excitement that only a long weekend of geocaching chaos can bring. It either rained or felt like the inside of a microwaved armpit all weekend. Heat index? 103. Fun index? Somehow still a 10.
I wasn’t even mad about the weather. Why? Because the people made it worth it. Friends I only get to see once a year, and a few new faces I’m glad I met. Chris Mackey, Jared, Ian, Russ, Shawn — always solid guys. We talked shop, traded pathtags, swapped stories, and sweated like pigs while doing it.
When I wasn’t trying to keep the dogs cool or chasing them out of someone else’s campsite, I was caching. And thrifting. And sweating. And caching again. I even scored some flash tags and trackables, plus won a shirt at the poker run. Pretty sure it was the only thing I “won” all weekend unless you count mosquito bites and dehydration.
Saturday night ended around a fire with a potluck dinner, white elephant gift exchange, and some of the best conversations you’ll ever have while holding a red solo cup. A little bourbon, a lot of laughs, and more than a few moments of “Remember that one cache back in 2012…?”
It’s events like these that remind me why I still love this hobby. Sure, it’s evolved. There’s more tech, more trackables, and more weirdos in tie-dye. But the heart of it? Still the same. Adventure, community, and a shared love of finding Tupperware in the woods.
