Securing My Life So I Can Escape It

Securing My Life So I Can Escape It
Are you seeking security or adventure?

You ever just sit there and think, “Am I playing it too safe?” Yeah, me too. But then again, I’m not trying to live some thrill-seeking, Red Bull-chugging, jump-off-a-cliff kind of life either. I’m not here to chase adrenaline like it’s on clearance. What I am doing is chasing freedom—but the kind of freedom that only comes from a little thing called security.

See, people love to throw the whole “Are you seeking security or adventure?” question around like it’s a damn personality quiz. Like you have to be one or the other. And maybe for some people, it’s true—they’re either living out of a backpack and couch-surfing across Europe, or they’re holed up in a beige cubicle trying to hit their 401k match.

But me? I want both. Actually, I want security so I can afford adventure.

Let me break it down—

I’m not out here trying to gamble rent money on some “Eat Pray Love” bullshit. I like knowing my bills are paid. I like having food in the fridge and coffee in the cabinet. That’s my foundation. That’s what keeps me from losing my damn mind. But that same foundation? It’s also what gives me the freedom to take a weekend trip, chase a geocache in the middle of nowhere, or pack up the car and say “screw it” for a couple of days.

Adventure doesn’t have to mean chaos. It doesn’t have to mean instability. For me, adventure is a reward—not a constant state. I bust my ass working two jobs, not because I love it, but because I know it’s building me the kind of life where I can escape once in a while without the world crumbling behind me.

Security isn’t a cage—it’s a launchpad. I’m not trying to be rich. I just want to know that if I want to take a hike with my dogs, plan a road trip with my wife, or chase a crazy idea I had in the middle of the night, I can do it without begging the universe for mercy.

So yeah, if you’re asking me if I’m seeking security or adventure…

I’m securing the hell out of my life—so I can adventure like I damn well mean it.

Balance.
