Tech Meets Trees: Why Geocaching is My Escape

Tech Meets Trees: Why Geocaching is My Escape
What are you passionate about?

I don’t have a lot of free time these days. Between working two jobs—one delivering meals and the other dealing with pizza chaos—most of my life feels like a constant loop of timecards, traffic, and trying to stay awake. But when I do get a day off, and I actually have the energy to do something for me, I go geocaching.

Yeah, geocaching. Basically modern-day treasure hunting with a GPS. Sounds nerdy? That’s because it is, and I freaking love it.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about using technology—my inner tech geek thrives on the maps, coordinates, and digital breadcrumbs—to find little containers hidden out in the real world. It’s like combining my love for gadgets and puzzles with my need to get outside, breathe some fresh air, and wander off into the woods like some rogue forest goblin with a Garmin.

It’s not just about finding the caches, though. It’s the adventure. The moment I step out of the car, GPS in hand, it’s like flipping a switch. The work stress fades, the noise quiets, and all that matters is the hunt. Some caches are easy. Some make me curse out loud in the middle of nowhere. But each one is its own little victory, a tiny “hell yeah” in a plastic container with a damp logbook inside.

These days, I don’t get out to cache as much as I used to. Life’s busy. But when I do get the chance, I soak up every second of it. It’s one of the few things that really recharge me. Give me a trail, some satellite coordinates, and a weird little ammo can under a tree, and I’m good.

It might seem like a weird hobby to some, but to me, it’s more than a pastime—it’s my passion. It’s where I get to be the tech nerd and the nature junkie all in one. And I’ll never stop chasing those finds, even if it’s just one weekend at a time.
