The Oldest Thing I Still Use Daily? My Knees & Back. Barely.
What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

You ever get asked, “What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use every day?” and your brain just flatlines? Yeah, that’s me. Every time.

Truth is, I don’t really have anything old. I’m not talking about sentimental trinkets or childhood toys tucked in a closet somewhere—I mean actual stuff I use day in and day out. Coffee mugs, furniture, tools, electronics, whatever. Because here’s the deal: about ten years ago, I got divorced, and when I say I walked away with just my clothes and memories, I mean it. She got everything else. House? Hers. Furniture? Hers. Plates, pans, TV, couch, dog bowl, broom? All hers. I basically left with a duffel bag and a “good luck” from the universe.

And you know what? It sucked. But also… it didn’t. I got to start over. Yeah, I had to buy a new bed, a crappy little couch, mismatched silverware from a thrift store. But every little thing I picked out since then? It’s mine. Not “ours,” not “that thing her mom gave us,” not “oh she liked this color so we got it.” Just mine. That hits different.

So no, I don’t have some ancient pair of boots or a twenty-year-old toaster I swear by. Most of my stuff is under a decade old because that’s when I hit the reset button. And now? Life is pretty damn good. I’ve got a solid little setup, some dogs who think I hung the moon, a wife who gets me, and way too many coffee mugs I actually like.

If you’re ever in a spot where you feel like you’ve lost everything—trust me, you haven’t. You’ve just been handed a blank slate. And it turns out, starting fresh can be the best damn thing that ever happens to you.

So yeah, the oldest thing I use every day? Probably my knees and back. And they’re hanging in there, barely.
