This Isn’t About Me

This Isn’t About Me
What is the legacy you want to leave behind?

People are always talking about legacy—what mark do you want to leave on the world? What do you want people to remember you for? Honestly… I don’t care about any of that. I’m not here to leave behind some grand story or have my name remembered. I just do what I do because it’s right.

I work with senior citizens every day through Meals on Wheels. I bring them hot meals, check on their safety, and maybe just sit and chat for a few minutes. Sometimes I’m the only face they see that day. And I don’t say that looking for a pat on the back. It’s just the truth. This job isn’t about praise or attention—it’s about showing up and doing good where it matters.

I’m not building a legacy. I’m just being a decent human being. If someone’s hungry, feed them. If someone’s lonely, talk to them. If someone’s at risk, check on them. That’s it. You don’t need to carve your name into a plaque or have a statue built in your honor to matter in this world. Sometimes, just showing up every day and being kind is more than enough.

So no, I don’t need a legacy. I just want to make sure the folks I see are fed, safe, and know that someone out there gives a damn. And if that means I fade into the background when it’s all said and done, I’m completely fine with that.
