When Less Is More: Why I Feel Complete

What does "having it all" mean to you? Is it attainable?
You know, people talk a lot about “having it all.” Like it’s some checklist you’re supposed to tick off—money, a big house, fancy car, career success, vacations in Europe, maybe a yacht if you’re really winning. But for me, “having it all” looks nothing like that. And honestly? I think I already have it.
I’m not rich. Let’s get that straight. I’m not out here driving sports cars or dining in five-star restaurants. But I’m not poor either. I’ve got enough to get by, to live comfortably, to not worry about whether the lights will stay on or if I can afford groceries this week. And you know what? That’s plenty.
What really makes me feel like I’ve got it all is the simple stuff. I wake up in the morning, and I get to see the sun rise. I get to look up at a sky that’s different every day—sometimes cloudy, sometimes clear, sometimes painted with the wildest colors you’ve ever seen. That alone feels like a gift. It’s a reminder that I’m alive, breathing, and here for another day.
And then there’s my little pack—my three dogs. I always say they chose me, not the other way around. Each one of them found their way to me at a time when I probably needed them more than they needed me. They love without question, greet me like I’m the best part of their day, and remind me constantly that life doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful.
But the heart of it all—my wife. She’s everything. My best friend, my partner, my rock, my soulmate. It still amazes me how lucky I am to have someone who gets me, supports me, challenges me, and loves me so deeply. We laugh, we cry, we grow. She makes even the dullest days shine. With her, life feels whole.
So when I say I “have it all,” I really mean it. Not because of the things I own, but because of the life I get to live. It’s filled with love, peace, purpose, and connection. And isn’t that what we’re all really after?
Having it all isn’t about how much you have. It’s about how much of it truly matters. And for me, I’ve got everything I need right here.
